Section 12: Internet Utility > General Setup

Logging

Logging is useful for tracing problems that need to be resolved or for reviewing a summarized history of what was actually processed. Each processing routine logs the beginning and end of the process and any errors encountered. Depending on the settings configured for each processing routine, many details related to the actual data processed may also be logged (e.g. which form was sent for which repair order to which e-mail address). Each log entry includes the date and time of the entry.

Again, depending on the settings configured for each processing routine, some details related to the processing may also be logged to the private notes field of the affected records (e.g. it may be recorded in the private notes section of a repair order that a form was sent to a particular e-mail address). Each entry recorded on affected records includes the date and time of the entry.

Starting and Stopping Logging

To start logging, select Logging  Start Logging from the main menu, or press the F4 key. The current logging status is displayed on the main program window.

To automatically start logging every time the Internet Utility starts, select Logging  Start Logging on Program Startup from the main menu (see also Running the Internet Utility). Logging is configured to start automatically by default.

To stop logging after logging has started, select Logging  Stop Logging from the main menu, or press the F4 key again.

To configure detailed logging for each particular process, see instructions for the setup of those processes.

Viewing the Log File

The log file is called aysinet.log and is located in the Log subfolder where At Your Service was installed (by default C:\Program Files\At Your Service\Log\aysinet.log on 32-bit systems or C:\Program Files (x86)\At Your Service\Log\aysinet.log on 64-bit systems). To view the contents of the log file, select Logging  View Log File from the main menu, or press the F5 key. The log file will be opened and displayed using your default system text editor program (e.g. Notepad).

If an error message is logged then an alert will be displayed on the main program window.

Clicking the error message with the mouse will automatically open the log file to display the error message.

To clear the contents of the log file, select Logging  Clear Log File from the main menu.

To view log messages that are recorded to the private notes area of affected records, see instructions for the corresponding program modules.
